We made the Port Hope paper!

Any press is good press! http://www.northumberlandtoday.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2096842

Posted on YouTube, the sketches feature the older of the two men as a dysfunctional eccentric Iranian father and the younger as a his clueless Canadian son.

One of the early posts, featuring the elder reciting poetry in Farsi and mysteriously appearing occasionally with the arms of a woman has been viewed more than 130,000 times.

Other posts have been viewed in the tens of thousands.

The most recent post involves Firooz serving food to his son and William’s subsequent reaction.

While William attended Humber College where he took a degree in comedy writing and performance, the two men claim the idea to do the sketches came to them when it was discovered a camera William gave his dad for Father’s Day could record video with fairly good quality. They made a short video of themselves playing ping pong rather aggressively.

Since then 26 sketches have been recorded.

You can read the whole article by following the link at the top. Baba has the hardcopy that has our photo in it which I’ll scan because the photo is apparently ridiculous.

Hopeless People

April 24th, 2009

In case you are wondering why I took down the Port Hopeless videos it’s because of a certain individual complaining who was featured in an episode. The web series has been scrapped and I will eventually re edit the 3 parts into a short documentary.

Now enjoy excerpts of correspondence with said individual:

William,

I was reprimanded again tonight at the theatre for my ‘alien’ remark in your video. This whole unpleasant affair - and your dad’s upset - could have been avoided if you’d checked with those in the video before posting it. In future, nobody’s getting near me with a camera. I’m not happy upsetting my fellow Port Hopers.

If I’m not removed from that video by the weekend, I’ll have no choice but to file a privacy complaint with Youtube. Please rectify the situation PDQ!

And my reply:

XXXXX,

Only retired, bored, nobodies would make such a fuss over a youtube video. I reposted the video due to the amount of anger I got FROM YOUR FELLOW PORT HOPERS after taking it down.

My father is upset at you disrupting our project and I’ve decided to take the videos down NOT because of your shallow threats but because of the pathetic self importance this must be giving you. “Nobody’s getting near me with a camera.” Ok, Britney. Honestly, this must be the most excitement you’ve seen in a while. You should be thanking me.

William

I would like to make it clear that in no way were these videos an attempt to slander the town of Port Hope or it’s peoples. If anything we were celebrating the town my father loves to reside in.

However, I will make certain to have consent and release forms on hand to prevent similar issues in the future.
